Introducing Pamela Wigglesworth

Although I studied for my degree in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, much of my business education and experience derives from the School of Hard Knocks. In 1990 I was part of the fashion product development team of a major US department store and was offered a position in Hong Kong working within their buying house. I grabbed the opportunity and it was a life changing experience for me. Eighteen short months later, when I was asked to return to the US, I realized I wanted to remain in Hong Kong so I resigned and joined a local company. After five years of experience in the Asian apparel sourcing and manufacturing business, I opened my own business, Sunrise Asian Sourcing Services in Hong Kong. I moved to Singapore in 1995 and subsequent businesses were born, in 1997, Seaside Clothing, a womens apparel brand and retail store, Kids-Tee-Off, a wholesale and internet childrens golf apparel brand in 2004 and in 2008 I created Experiential. So as you can see, I developed a passion for the subject of entrepreneurship. You may ask, what does this have to do with corporate training and speaking on personal communication and marketing communication? Well, it has everything to do with who I am and why I speak and train today. The past 15 years has not been without its share of difficult moments and major challenges. I had great visions for my business and wanted to do everything in my power to make them succeed. That meant learning what branding, advertising and marketing was all about and finding the best ways to build awareness so I could gain recognition and subsequent sales for my products and services. However as a start-up, I didn't have access to the same connections, technology or professional expertise as the more established, financially independent big boys and girls do. This meant spending years learning through reading, taking courses, studying, numerous mentoring moments over coffee all to educate myself on branding & marketing the businesses in a big way yet with limited or even no resources. Over time I was able to create processes that I could apply to each new business. Then a light bulb went off. I realized that many of the processes could be shared in such as way that smaller companies or entrepreneurs could become their own brand and marketing managers to execute their own integrated marketing communications plan…they just needed to be shown how in a simple and step-by-step manner. With a branding and marketing plan in place, my focus switched to verbal communication; specifically presenting the products and services of the businesses. I needed to learn the best way to communicate my thoughts so that decision makers would be willing to listen to what I had to offer. This involved knowing how to articulate my ideas through mannerisms, presentation style, presentation content as well as my voice, tone and pitch, in such a way that they would sit up and take notice. Therefore this became another area that I began to share in the training arena. Today, I am a Singapore-based corporate trainer helping SMEs and entrepreneurs with their branding and marketing communications so they too can reach and engage their customers to increase sales of their product or services. What started out as fashion based communications has grown to include working with a Malaysian telecommunications company, customer service communication in the hospitality industry for Club Med and the music & entertainment industry with HMV. I train and speak about these subjects because I believe that ever person, every company, regardless of size, should have the chance to make their business a success….. whatever that looks like for you. I welcome an opportunity to chat with you about your companys marketing communication strategy to learn how I might be able to help you. Feel free to contact me at pam@experiential.sg Heres to your business success!
